Land of seven civilizations

Balchik is one of the most ancient European cities on the Black Sea coast, established more than 2600 years ago around the middle of the 6th century b.c. of the Ionian colonists on the ruins of a much earlier settlement, known as Krurni – Izvori.

The modern town of Balchik is a seaside resort, which is located near the resort of Albena. The resort offers its visitors the opportunity for complete rest and rich history. In the city interesting sights include the Botanical Garden, Architectural – park complex Palace Mutual School, Ethnographic Museum, Art Gallery, City History Museum, Tekke. In the region of Balchik there are Cape Kaliakra, Kamen Briag, Durankulak Lake and others.

The Historical Museum – Balchik began its history back in 1907, when Karel Shkorpil (a Czech-Bulgarian archeologist and museum worker) began his first excavations in the town.
